Interior Design (All responses must go into your sketchbook in complete sentences!)

1. What type of room or room(s) you will design? (click here) After looking through some of the spaces, write down 1 or 2 types of rooms you are interested in creating.

2. The following link has a list of different careers and how much those careers earn. Write down your career choice and the mean annual salary for the career you are interested in. http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes_il.htm#b27-0000

At the top of the list are the career clusters. The number to the left of the cluster will direct you to the place on the list where the career you are interested in is listed.

3. On this calculator type in your annual salary and divide that by 12 to get your monthly salary. Write this number down.

4. Complete the budget calculator (click here). Think honestly about how much you would spend on each part of your life. How much money do you have left over after your monthly expenses? (This is your monthly discretionary income.)

5. Generally, the lower your salary, the less you would spend on decorating your home. Do you belong to group 1 or 2? You will need to know for #6.

Group 1 stores are recommended for salaries of $45,000 a year or below.
Group 2 stores are recommended for salaries of $46,000 a year or more.

6. Shop for furniture with your extra spending money from your budget. DRAW at least 3 pieces of furniture/electronics and 1 window treatment. Be sure to write how much each costs! Click here for links to stores where you will find different examples of furniture.
